Jose Luis Montales during the signing ceremony for the Acacia Estates Interceptor Canal Project held at the convention center of the new Taguig City Hall last March 17, 2026.
Quadruple A developer DMCI Homes has formalized its partnership with the City Government of Taguig to implement coordinated flood mitigation measures for low-lying communities surrounding its Acacia Estates township development.
The initiative underscores the company’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable urban development through its “Kaakbay” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Acacia Estates Interceptor Canal Project was signed by DMCI Homes President Alfredo Austria, DMCI Homes Construction Survey Manager Engr. Elizabeth Balmonte, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, and Taguig City Administrator Atty. Jose Luis Montales at the convention center of the new Taguig City Hall last March 17, 2026.
Facilitated with the support of Taguig City Councilor Allan Paul Cruz, Chairman of the Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure, the project involves the construction of an interceptor canal—a major drainage system designed to improve flood management and reduce water buildup in vulnerable communities.
The canal will serve six barangays surrounding Acacia Estates: Ususan, Bambang, Hagonoy, Katuparan, San Miguel, and Wawa. Stormwater from Barangays Ususan, Bambang, and Wawa will be directed toward the Taguig River, while runoff from Barangays Katuparan, Hagonoy, and San Miguel will flow into the Hagonoy River. This system is expected to significantly reduce flooding across these areas.
The project also includes the development of a temporary stormwater retention facility to manage excess water during periods of heavy rainfall. It complements ongoing efforts to clear waterways and is envisioned as a long-term solution to strengthen Taguig’s flood control infrastructure and safeguard communities.
In his remarks, Austria expressed gratitude to the City Government of Taguig, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the private sector and local government.
“We thank the City Government of Taguig for their collaboration and shared commitment to the welfare of the community. Together, we are not only addressing today’s needs, but also laying the groundwork for a stronger and more sustainable Taguig,” Austria said.
Acacia Estates, Taguig City
Underscoring the importance of sustainability and resilience, Alfredo Austria highlighted how the initiative supports the long-term vitality of Acacia Estates and nearby communities.
“Acacia Estates has always been envisioned as a thoughtfully planned community. This interceptor canal is another step toward ensuring that the estate and its surrounding areas remain livable, resilient, and prepared for the future.”
Mayor Cayetano, meanwhile, highlighted the Acacia Estates Interceptor Canal Project’s long-term impact on flood management in the city.
“The Interceptor Canal project represents a decisive step toward improving flood management in affected areas. It reflects our commitment to move beyond short-term responses and toward more structured and sustainable solutions. By enhancing drainage systems and strengthening water management mechanisms, we are laying the groundwork for safer neighborhoods and more resilient infrastructure,” she said.
Also present during the signing ceremony were key officials from the City of Taguig, including City Administrator Atty. Jose Luis Montales; Councilors Atty. Joy Panga-Cruz and Ferdie “Bro” Santos; Deputy City Administrator and City Executive Legal Office Head Atty. Paciano F.
