Noting the stiff competition in the real estate industry, DMCI Homes’ top construction officers underscored the importance of continuous learning and improvement among foremen and capataces who participated in the recently held Supervisory Skills Enhancement Workshop (SSEW) at the company’s headquarters in Makati City.
The two-day workshop last Dec. 7 and 12 was the second of a series of trainings lined up by DMCI Homes to enhance labor productivity and improve overall work quality onsite.
The second workshop aimed to develop and enhance the participants’ competencies necessary to become an effective and successful supervisor by teaching them effective resources management, critical thinking, personal efficiency, performance management and basic leadership skills.
During the workshop, Senior Vice President for Construction Elmer G. Civil urged the participants to emulate the late DMCI Group founder David M. Consunji who instilled a passion for continuous education and learning among his workers.
“Ang (dapat maging) inspirasyon natin (ay) si DM. At the age of 93 gusto pa rin niyang matuto kasi importante sa atin ay natututo. Hindi puwedeng ‘yung umuubrang ginagawa natin kahapon ay ‘yun din ang gagawin natin ngayon at gagawin natin bukas,” Civil told the participants in reference to the acknowledged “Grandfather of the Construction Industry” in the country.
“Kailangan umasenso tayo. Kailangang mag-improve tayo. Hindi aasenso ‘yung kumpanya kung hindi tayo aasenso. So napakaimportante na mag-aral tayo,” he stressed.
Resource speakers also included DMCI Homes seasoned engineers, area managers Hector Tiongco and Ronnel Gasgonia, who shared their insights on planning and quantification and quality and monitoring respectively.
Workshop participants, meanwhile, were grateful to DMCI Homes for continuously looking for ways to enhance the knowledge and skills of its workers for them to be able to keep up with the growing demands of the industry.
“Sa pamamagitan ng workshop na ito naging maliwanag uli kung paano kami tutulong sa kumpanya, paano kami tutulong sa tao namin, paano kami tutulong doon sa mga bagong engineer at marami pang iba,” said one of the participants,
Roman Madrona, who has been with the company for the past 21 years.
