Kiddie residents of DMCI Homes’ Zinnia Towers condominium community in Balintawak, Quezon City continue to learn and have fun at the same time even during the pandemic through basic drawing lessons conducted online.

In the “ZinniaSkwela” Art Class conducted by graphic designer, Noel Izar, kids at the two-tower condominium community are taught how to draw shapes, fruits, and animals.

Even the kids’ parents have been joining the fun to bond with their kids as well as their fellow residents.

“During the second quarter last year, the Community Development Council asked me if I was willing to teach online drawing classes to some kids. Being an art enthusiast myself, I willingly offered my services and started classes in July 2020,” Izar shared.

“It was very basic at first, teaching kids to draw shapes, fruits, and animals. We ended the year having fun with the kids. We resumed classes again last month,” he added.

Izar said teaching basic drawing lessons is a great way to make staying at home productive and enjoyable for kids amid the pandemic. He is also planning to do cooking classes and other engaging activities once the health crisis is over.

“For me, this a good start. If not for the pandemic, we could have done more. As an art teacher, I envisioned art exhibits done by the kids, their parents, and other residents,” Izar revealed.

“We can also have art clubs or associations that will further enhance the skills of the residents. We can have cooking classes, safety seminars, bible studies, and a lot more. But those have to wait for now,” he continued.

Applying what they learned for the past months, the kiddie enrollees recently drew heartwarming Valentine’s cards for the teachers and students of Claro M. Recto High School (CMRHS) in Sampaloc, Manila.

The cards were given to 15 students of CMRHS who were the recipients of learning tablets and prepaid load cards donated by One Hope—a group of DMCI Homes condominium communities in Manila and Quezon City—through their Give-to-Connect Community Outreach Program.

Parents of the art class enrollees said they are thankful to Zinnia Towers’ Community Development Council and Property Management Office for always looking for ways to give kiddie residents a venue to learn and interact with their neighbors despite the limitations of the pandemic.

“My kid learned to interact not just with his friends and classmates but also with other kids in the Zinnia Towers community. We, the homeowners, also joined our kids during the drawing sessions and we got to know each other better as well,” Rosarey Vega-Go said.

“Joining community activities helps me get to know more of our neighbors and it also helps our kids to socialize, make friends and play together especially since we only have limited places to go to,” Maricor Ong added.
