Kaakbay: The Heart of DMCI Homes’ Corporate Social Responsibility
Fernando Peña Sr., a construction worker, and his son, Fernando “Ferd” Peña Jr., a licensed engineer, now work happily together at DMCI Homes. Ferd was able to complete his engineering degree through the support of the David M. Consunji (DMC) Scholarship.
DMCI Homes’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program centers on giving back to the community through Kaakbay, a focused and branded framework that embodies the spirit of partnership and compassion.
Meaning “a true companion” in Filipino, Kaakbay reflects DMCI Homes’ enduring commitment to be a reliable partner in nation-building, extending its purpose of creating better living environments beyond home construction.
Through Kaakbay, DMCI Homes carries out initiatives in four key areas of social development: Kaakbay sa Kalusugan for health and well-being, Kaakbay sa Kalikasan for environmental protection and sustainable eco-development, Kaakbay sa Pamayanan for social welfare and community development, and Kaakbay sa Edukasyon for educational assistance and advancement.
The Sunday Farmers Market in DMCI Homes condo communities is part of DMCI Homes’ ongoing partnership with the Tuba farming community, anchored on shared goals of promoting agri-tourism and supporting local livelihoods.
Through Kaakbay sa Kalusugan, the company has conducted medical missions, health assistance, and outreach programs that improve access to essential care. Relief efforts have also provided support to healthcare institutions and vulnerable communities, especially during times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kaakbay sa Kalikasan promotes environmental awareness and stewardship through tree planting, estero cleanups, waste management, and ecosystem conservation activities.
These initiatives encourage a shared sense of responsibility for sustainability among residents, employees, and partner communities.

This includes ongoing partnerships with the farmers of Tuba, Benguet—the host community of DMCI Homes Leisure Residences’ Moncello Crest project—to help strengthen local livelihoods and community resilience.
Kaakbay also contributes to the preservation of culture and heritage, as seen in DMCI Homes’ restoration of the Church of the Holy Sacrifice in UP Diliman, a recognized cultural and architectural treasure.
In partnership with the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc., DMCI Homes has been a valuable ally to the UP Diliman Institute of Civil Engineering, providing significant donations such as professorial chairs, a 2000 kN Universal Testing Machine for the Construction Materials and Structures Laboratory (CoMSLab), a lecture room, a computational laboratory, a canteen, and the 260-seat David M. Consunji Theater.
Meanwhile, Kaakbay sa Edukasyon enhances learning opportunities through scholarships, donation of learning materials and partnerships with academic institutions like the UP Diliman Institute of Civil Engineering (UP-ICE) to help promote research-driven solutions in the construction industry.
Among these efforts is the David M. Consunji (DMC) Scholarship, which offers educational support to the children of DMCI Homes workers with the rank of capataz in recognition of their parents’ hard work and contribution to the company’s success.
Through these programs, DMCI Homes continues to uphold its core values of integrity, excellence, customer orientation, and interdependence while channeling its resources and expertise toward meaningful community-building.

More than a series of outreach activities, Kaakbay has grown into a shared commitment that unites employees, partners, and communities in the spirit of compassion and collective growth.
Through this continuing partnership, DMCI Homes helps build a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable society for future generations.
