Summer season is here and along with it are higher electric bills due to all-day use of fans and airconditioning units, especially in cramped buildings with poor ventilation.
Good thing for homeowners of DMCI Homes high-rise condominiums, they live in a home that is still breezy and cool even during the summer months in the Philippines, resulting in substantial savings on electricity.
Designed with Lumiventt® Design Technology - from the words “lumen” meaning light and “ventus” meaning wind, DMCI Homes high-rise condominiums allow cross-ventilation and let natural light permeate inside residential units through well-placed three-storey high openings called Sky Patios.
This green and healthy building design allows residents to manage the high cost of energy consumption while doing their part in caring for the environment.
Ms. Vanessa Ferrer, a resident of Lumiere Residences in Pasig, attests to this, sharing how this building design helped her family lessen their use of electric lights and cooling appliances.
“In fact, last summer hindi namin na-feel ‘yong kainitan ng summer kasi sobrang lakas ng umiikot na fresh air doon sa unit namin at kapag umuulan naman, sobrang lamig na parang ikaw ay naka-aircon na so tuwang-tuwa kami,” said Ferrer whose family moved into their two-bedroom unit in November 2020.
From having over P6,000 monthly bill when they were still staying in their old condo in Rizal province, she now pays around P3,000 each month while living in the Pasig condominium. “Hindi na ako gumagamit ng aircon sa gabi at minsan hindi na rin kami gumagamit ng fan kasi sobrang mahangin talaga,” Ferrer, a mother of one, shared.
“Bukod sa napakalakas ng umiikot na hangin, makikita mo na very bright ‘yong kapaligiran ng unit na binili namin. So, it was really a good choice na atrium level kami at na-take advantage namin ‘yong Lumiventt® Technology ng residential homes ng DMCI,” she continued.

Ms. Lara Acupang is another DMCI Homes unit owner who is reaping the benefits of this innovative design technology. In their new 2-bedroom unit at Brixton Place in Pasig, she pays around P4,700-P4,800 monthly electric bill while using two inverter airconditioning units. Her current bill is lower than the more than P5,000 monthly bill she was paying in their old home, where they were using only one non-inverter type airconditioning unit.
“Hindi na nga kami nagpalagay ng split-type na aircon sa living room kasi napansin namin kahit walang electric fan, kung i-open lang namin ‘yong windows tapos ‘yong door, parang tumatagos na ‘yong hangin,” shared Lara, referring to her family’s unit at Brixton Place which has been their home since December 2021.
DMCI Homes high-rise buildings are also easier and inexpensive to maintain with the Lumiventt® design.
Compared with other condominiums where electric lights are turned on for 24 hours to illuminate hallways, in a typical DMCI Homes high-rise condominium with an average of eight Sky Patios, lights are only turned on in the hallway, landscaped atrium, atrium opening, and elevator lobby at night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. as there is adequate natural light that permeates through the building during the day.
In a 2019 study conducted by DMCI Homes’ Design and Engineering Department on the 42-storey Iris Tower of Tivoli Garden Residences in Mandaluyong City, this translates to over P11,000 electricity consumption per month per Sky Patio, or over P70,000 in monthly savings due to the Lumiventt® design.
Electric bill savings aside, this building design most importantly helps DMCI Homes residents conserve electricity and in turn help save the planet’s natural resources.
As experts say, caring for the environment begins at home.
