DMCI Homes offers shelter for Books for A Cause

July 13, 2015

DMCI Homes doesn’t only provide quality homes and communities, but also offers shelter to valuable advocacies like Books for A Cause.

Books for a Cause is a continuously growing book campaign that aims to inculcate in the minds of less fortunate Filipinos that poverty should never be a hindrance to education. Its beginnings started from a simple act of book-giving, led by Books for A Cause founder Ramil Sumangil, which has now turned into a massive collaboration between individuals, schools, companies and communities, donating books towards the betterment of literacy and education in the Philippines.

Blest with overflowing responses from volunteers and people who donated their pre-loved books, a bigger challenge has faced Sumangil— he will be needing more space to store the books. Seeing this, DMCI Homes offers shelter for the donations, making its Insular property the new warehouse of Books for A Cause. This new shelter is located along Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City.

In the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, Sumangil expresses his gratitude on DMCI Homes, saying, “Definitely it’s going to be a big help. Unang una, sino-sort yung mga libro bago ibigay sa nangangailangan. Ang daming dumadating na libro, wala [na] akong mapaglalagyan.” Currently, his own home in Vista De Lago;t only provide quality homes and communities, but also offers shelter to valuable advocacies like Books for A Cause.

These donated books are bound to travel from north to south of the Philippines, to reach far-flung areas, communities and schools.

Just very recently, DMCI Homes started to share Sumangil’s advocacy by campaigning Books for a Cause inside its communities. In its campaign, the developer provided boxes for donations in each of its existing communities, to encourage its homeowners to donate their pre-loved books for the drive.

When asked about the upcoming projects of Books for a Cause campaign, Sumangil’s reply was simple, “[Ang] mailapit sa mas maraming bata ‘yung mga libro. Especially ‘yung mga nangangailangan, ‘yung mga nasa bulubundukin. With Books for A Cause and with the help of DMCI Homes, mas marami tayong matutulungan.

Representing DMCI Homes were SVP for Finance and Operations, Ramil Lombos and Marketing and Customer Care Manager, Jan Venturanza. The group was also joined by Project Development Manager, Dennis Yap and Head of General Services, Rick Martin who served as witnesses of the event. The Memorandum of Understanding signing was held at DMCI Homes Corporate Center on July 9, 2015.
