David M. Consunji Scholarship launched to help children of DMCI Homes skilled workers

DMCI Homes has launched the David M. Consunji (DMC) Scholarship to help finance the education of deserving but economically disadvantaged children of selected skilled workers starting this school year.

Spearheaded by the Human Resources Department, the David M. Consunji (DMC) Scholarship aims to help dependents of eligible capataz or foreman aiming to finish tertiary education or take up non-formal or vocational course.

"DM's passion to help others and how he values education inspired us to launch DMC Scholarship. We want to keep his legacy alive by offering scholarship to well-deserved students of our workers," shared DMCI Homes Assistant Vice President for Human Resources Teresa Tiongson.

The program kicked off early this year with an announcement distributed to various projects of DMCI Homes with skilled workers on site.  The announcement includes the qualifications and requirements for the skilled workers and their college dependents.

To qualify for the DMC Scholarship, eligible applicants must be children of either a capataz or a foreman working in DMCI Homes for at least four years, has good moral standing with no violation record on safety and administrative policies of the company and highly-recommended by their respective project-in charge (PICs).

The students must also pass the evaluation of the selection committee and has received the endorsement letter from the president of the company.

For this school year, the DMC Scholarship is supporting six beneficiaries including John Carlo Cayanan, a Civil Engineering student in Bataan State University, and Jhener Marasigan, a B.S. Secondary Education Major in Math student in Cavite State University. DMCI Homes is planning to grow the list of beneficiaries eventually to 50 scholars. 

Cayanan said the allowance he is getting from the program is a big help especially in paying for unexpected school expenses like school project materials and miscellaneous fees.

“As a college student po, sobrang laking tulong para sa akin ng allowance na nanggagaling sa DMCI Homes. Sa college po kasi, lumalabas na mas malaki pa po yung unexpected expenses kaysa doon sa mga expenses na nareresibuhan gaya ng tuition fee, miscellaneous fee, books, etc.,” Cayanan said.

“Sana po magpatuloy pa yung pagtulong ng DMCI Homes para sa mga katulad namin at patuloy na magbigay ng sapat na tulong pinansiyal nang sa gayon kami’y makatapos at maging bahagi ng pambansang lakas-paggawa sa nalalapit na kinabukasan,” he added.

Marasigan, for his part, expressed hope that the scholarship would cover more financially hard up students who would want to finish their education.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako dahil isa ako sa pinalad at blessing na rin ni Lord na matulungan niyo po ang kagaya naming mahihirap. Sana po ay maranasan din ito ng mga iba pang estudyanteng nangangailangan din ng tulong pinansyal para sa pag-aaral,” he said.

The scholarship program is part of DMCI Homes’ “Kaakbay sa Edukasyon” Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives which aim to enhance learning and education in the country. “Kaakbay sa Edukasyon” is under the umbrella CSR program “Kaakbay” which aims to extend global affluence and uphold the well-being of Filipinos.
