The bigger condo unit size, the better for this young family of three

Condominiums come in various styles and sizes ranging from a compact studio to a big 3-bedroom layout. All these unit types have their own benefits to offer but choosing one’s own space should depend on one’s needs, preference or lifestyle.


For young couple, Royce and Karla Opinion, unit size does matter as it gives them the flexibility of use especially since they are starting a family. Royce and Karla got married in 2019 and later had a child of their own, Kai Gabriel, in 2020.


Since they are planning to have two more kids in the near future, they wanted a big condominium unit when they were scouting for their own home after they got married.


“We wanted it a little bit bigger because we are planning to have at least two to three kids. Having tried living in a studio unit already, we feel that it would be too small for our family,” Royce explained.


Karla said they have also heard some of their friends regretting their decision to go for a smaller unit instead of a bigger one years after they have made their purchase.


“That’s one of our reasons for considering a bigger space and also since we know that real estate appreciates over time. So, when we saw that our cash flow allows us to get a 3-bedroom, we went for it already,” she continued.

“When Karla was pregnant with Kai, we thought of investing in our own home already because we are just renting out a studio unit in Makati and we felt that it was a little bit small for us to raise our family,” Royce related.


Since both of them work in Makati, the couple also wanted to live near the area, which made The Atherton an attractive prospect.


“Our priority was really to find a place that is relatively near Makati because we all know that prices of condos in Makati are quite high especially for us since we are looking for a bigger space,” Royce pointed out.


“If we invest here in Makati, it’s quite difficult to find something of quality with a price that is within our budget. So, we felt that The Atherton was just the perfect place for us because it is located just after the exit point of the Skyway. It feels like we're still somehow connected to Makati,” he added.


Their decision to invest in The Atherton was also buoyed by their familiarity and confidence behind the developer whose developments have caught their fancy in the past. 


“I have friends who live in a DMCI condo so we know it to be very generous in terms of space and because of its amenities. Since we love to travel, it’s really exciting for us to live in a resort-inspired community,” Karla said.


“Especially now that we are in a pandemic and we can’t bring our kids to the park. Sometimes what we do is we’ll just go on a joyride just so our baby could see the outdoors. But in a DMCI condo, it’s like you have a park of your own. So you don’t need to go out anymore,” she added.


All these exciting features of The Atherton make Royce and Karla even more excited for the turnover of their three-bedroom unit in the coming years. “If you see the price of a three-bedroom unit, of course it is more expensive because it is bigger, but if you look at the price per square meter, it is actually very, very competitive. Personally, I think it is very undervalued. We really feel that it will still appreciate in value in time,” Royce explained.


“So, if the unit is available and if it’s within the budget we would really recommend a 2 or 3-bedroom unit also for other homebuyers because you will also need that extra space in the long term,” Karla added.
