DMCI Homes further addresses well-being of its site workers through free WiFi service and more recreational facilities in barracks

February 15, 2021

DMCI Homes workers staying at the Kai Garden Residences barracks play table tennis to unwind.

As part of the company’s Welfare of Workers (WoW) Program initiatives, Quadruple A developer DMCI Homes continues to raise living conditions in its workers’ dormitories by rolling out added benefits such as WiFi service and more recreational facilities for its stay-in workers.

The property arm of DMCI Holdings, Inc. rolled out the improved workers’ dormitories in 2019 as part of the company’s WoW Program that aims to address the needs of the members of the construction team at the project sites.

Currently, the company has 19 dormitories in various construction sites occupied by 3,323 DMCI Homes workers.

Fourteen of the 19 dormitories have been installed with WiFi service for the use of the workers and for them to connect easily with their loved ones while they are away from home. Table tennis, chess sets and other board games are also available in selected dormitories for DMCI Homes workers’ recreation.

“We have formed a dedicated committee whose main task is to look for ways to give our workers a safe and healthy working environment. As the lifeblood of the company, the health and wellbeing of our workers is of paramount importance to us,” DMCI Homes Vice President for Human Resources Teresa Tiongson said.

DMCI Homes has decided to expand its workers dormitories in 2020 to ensure convenient workers’ accommodation amid the coronavirus health crisis.

The enhanced workers’ dormitories which are offered for a minimum fee, features among others a mess hall, cooking area, canteen, comfort rooms, entertainment room, laundry area, locker area, and mobile phone charging stations.

Apart from ensuring convenient workers’ accommodation, the company has also launched an interest-free, salary deduction “Bike Loan” program, to reduce their dependence on public transportation.

Moreover, the company has also been providing free Vitamin C supplements and personal protective equipment to further ensure the health and well-being of DMCI Homes workers amid the health crisis.

Thermal scanning and use of facemasks among other minimum health standards are likewise implemented in all DMCI Homes project sites in accordance with the health and safety protocols prescribed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), and concerned local government units.

Members of DMCI Homes WoW committee regularly convene to discuss the general condition of workers’ welfare facilities and how it can continuously improve the workers’ overall well-being.
