Selected students and teachers of Claro M. Recto High School (CMRHS) in Sampaloc, Manila recently got an early Christmas cheer from residents and property managers of DMCI Homes condominium communities who delighted them with gifts and goodies last December 10, 2020.
Spearheaded by One Hope, a group of DMCI Homes condominium communities in Manila and Quezon City, the Give-to-Connect Community Outreach Program aimed to spread cheer this Christmas season amid the challenges brought by the COVID-19 crisis.
Fifteen students from CMRHS were given learning tablets to aid them on their distance learning classes this school year. Aside from learning tablets, the students along with their teachers were also given goodies and Christmas basket during the program, which was done in partnership with CMRHS Principal Mr. Raffy V. Caballes.
"This is an opportune time to remind our teachers and students that they have neighbor communities who are always ready to lend a helping hand to ensure their uninterrupted learning despite the challenges of the pandemic,” said Ms. Edilyn Perez, Area Manager of DMCI Homes Property Management Corporation for Quezon City and Manila communities.
Mr. Caballes, who is also a resident of DMCI Homes’ The Amaryllis community thanked DMCI Homes through One Hope for helping CMRHS students cope with the challenges of the distance learning system.
“We at the administration of our school are really worried of the huge number of learners who cannot join the on-line classes due to lack of gadgets or experiencing problem with internet connection,” Mr. Caballes said.
“This scenario led us to do School Partnership Program, looking for donors of gadgets and even load allowance for our learners. My personal perspective on this is simply, I firmly believe that there are a lot of generous people around who are very much willing to extend help, even go out of their comfort zone just to lend a hand for those who are in need, we just need to give them right platform of doing it,” he continued.
Builder of communities
The school principal said the program once again proved that DMCI Homes is not only in the business of putting up structures, but also in building communities.
“I can proudly say to my colleagues in the Division of Manila, that people in the DMCI Homes are people who are very much aware of what is happening in our community. Indeed, this project of Give to Connect Program justly prove that DMCI is not just putting up buildings, but also building communities that are connected with the bigger community,” Mr. Caballes said.
“This is a very relevant project that will surely inspire our learners to face courageously the challenges of new normal education. Thus, with what is given to each of the 15 learners, we all see it as the beacon of hope amidst the pandemic,” he added.
Spirit of Hope
Mr. Nilo San Buenaventura, a resident of DMCI Homes’ Viera Residences community in Quezon City, on the other hand, thanked DMCI Homes and One Hope for allowing him to become part of the project.
“The One Hope program recently conducted was a privilege like no other. Beyond the highlights of giving to the less fortunate, it conveyed the spirit of hope, and joy, that we shared to the children of Claro M. Recto High School. It was my first experience to be part of the program and undeniably one for the books!” he exclaimed.
“As we gave those gadgets to the children, it also made me realize how blessed we all are in all that we have. Seeing those children with their faces bright in delight, it just feels good that we become instruments of hope, that in the light of this pandemic, there is that answer to their prayers, in ways that we can,” he added.
