The robotic total station is used by DMCI Homes’ Survey Audit Team to optimize measurement accuracy and quality assurance.

Remaining committed to deliver projects on time, Quadruple A developer DMCI Homes has been investing in advance technology and modern surveying equipment that provide high level of accuracy and measurement performance to boost building quality and increase productivity.

In 2019, DMCI Homes acquired its first robotic total station (RTS) with 3D scanning capability. Integrated with Building Information Modeling (BIM) to streamline design and engineering workflows and processes, this innovative solution is capable of collecting 3D scans with highly accurate dimensional information of real-world conditions and has the potential to expose inaccuracies early in the construction process.

Investments in new construction tools like the RTS enabled DMCI Homes to easily identify potential issues long before errors incur onsite costs thus reducing unnecessary costs and rework as well as help maintaining timeline of the projects.

DMCI Homes Survey Team Head, Senior Geodetic Engineer Elizabeth Balmonte said the RTS is used by the Survey Audit Team to optimize measurement accuracy and quality assurance.

“Ensuring accuracy in layout means no rework needed, smooth work sequence, improved productivity which will all ensure and translate to profit,” Balmonte said.

“Using RTS, Survey Team can track all points laid out and cross check any discrepancies against the BIM model. These discrepancies or errors can easily compound and cause significant issues at a later stage if not corrected as early as possible,” she added.

Unlike a mechanical total station (TS), the RTS, which can be paired with a tablet, also requires less time and less manpower to operate.

“One day audit work of small area for a TS can be accomplished in 30 minutes with RTS,” Balmonte said.

Balmonte said DMCI Homes is recognizing the benefits of technology and digitalization allowing its projects to continually improve its accuracy, efficiency and speed.
