It may just be one of
the usual amenities but there is a reason behind the presence of a basketball
court in most DMCI Homes residential condominium communities.
DMCI Homes President Alfredo
Austria said having a basketball court or other sports amenities as part of a
residential condo project is in line with the company’s mission of providing an
environment conducive for the holistic development of its residents.
“The basketball court
was not placed there just for fun. It’s supposed to be a learning tool for the
community. It’s part of our goal to provide a learning environment for all of
the members of the community especially the kids,” Austria explained.
“If they engage in
sports, they will learn lot of things - discipline, camaraderie and so on,
aside from having good interaction with their fellow residents. So to us that
is very important,” he added.
Up-and-coming
basketball talent Prince Khan, a resident of DMCI Homes’ La Verti Residences
along Taft Avenue, Pasay City could attest to how playing the sport has helped
him gain friends in the community.
“I just met them in the
basketball court. Now we’re like family. We’re very close to each other,” the
15-year-old said of his teammates in the La Verti Residences basketball team.
Khan’s team is
representing Area 5 in the 2018 DMCI Homes’ Annual Inter-Area Basketball
Tournament which is an annual activity among 5 areas representing more than 40
condominium communities: Area 1 for communities in the north; Area 2 for Acacia
Estates, DMCI Homes' township development in Taguig City; Area 3 for residences
in the south; Area 5 for Manila and Mandaluyong area; and Area 6 for the Pasig
City area.
Businessman Gio Caunca,
being a frustrated basketball player, on the other hand, takes comfort in the
presence of a basketball court in his DMCI Homes’ Mayfield Park Residences
condo community in Pasig City.
Caunca said by spending
time in the basketball court, he has made new friends that led him to manage
his own basketball team competing in basketball leagues in Marikina and Pasig
City.
“I’m a frustrated
basketball player so what I did was I just managed my own team,” Caunca shared,
chuckling.
Miguel Costes, a young
professional in a leading e-commerce business in the country, meanwhile said he
would not exchange the basketball court for any amenity in his Levina Place
condo community.
“It’s the only place
that I visit regularly every weekend after the hustle and bustle of each work week.
Basically, we just look forward to spending the next three hours or four
playing basketball,” said Costes who has been living in DMCI Homes’ mid-rise
development along Jenny's Ave., Pasig City since 2017.
Though they live in
different DMCI Homes communities, the three are one in saying that a basketball
court and other sports facilities are vital part of their respective condo
communities.
“I have a house in
Marikina, Pasig and Cainta. But since 2005, I have been living in Mayfield
because it’s where I feel at home the most. I really like the community and of
course the amenities especially the basketball court,” Caunca beamed.
