Residents of Acacia Estates in Taguig City were greeted by a refreshing Sunday morning last May 18, 2025, as their community played host to a special Farmers Market featuring the highland harvests of Tuba, Benguet.
Held along Kamagong Street beside Acacia Town Center, the one-day event brought a bounty of fresh produce straight from the mountains: crisp lettuce, carrots, pechay Baguio, sayote, cauliflower, broccoli, avocado, tomato, potato, eggplant, native ginger, sweet camote, pipino, zucchini, beans, sweet peas, lemon, bell pepper, passion fruit, and strawberries.
Alongside these were regional delicacies such as homemade strawberry jam, mulberry jam, chili paste, mushrooms, kiniing (smoked meat), and freshly brewed Benguet coffee.
Acacia Estates residents enjoyed a farm-to-table experience, savoring the freshness, flavors, and sense of community it brought.
“It’s good to have this kind of community activity—to be able to buy fresh farm produce,” said Susan, who came to the market with her neighbors Lalang and Tess. “It’s a nice experience to have with the community.”
The event was made possible through a collaboration between DMCI Homes and the Tuba Agri-Tourism Community (TATC). Last February, the two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support local farmers in growing their livelihood and developing farm-based tourism experiences tied to Moncello Crest, DMCI Homes Leisure Residences’ upcoming eco-agri resort condotel in Tuba, Benguet.
More than offering fresh produce, the initiative gave Tuba farmers a valuable opportunity to learn the ropes of direct retail and customer engagement.
“Malaking tulong ito kasi ang mga farmer natin natututo silang mag-retail ng kanilang mga product instead of just bringing it to the market, sa trading posts o kaya doon sa mismong nag-who-wholesale ng product nila,” shared TATC Vice-Chairperson Jennelyn Saingan. “Dito na-e-experience nila na sila mismo yung nagbebenta ng product nila so nararanasan din nila kung paanong kumita sa products nila directly from their farms. Hindi lang sa bulsa, even in their personality, sa socialization and of course sa agribusiness din, malaking tulong ang activity na ito.”
By eliminating middlemen, farmers not only earned more from their harvests but also gained a deeper understanding of the benefits of selling directly to consumers.
The direct interaction also helped reduce potential food waste due to oversupply in traditional selling channels.
The success of the Acacia Estates Sunday Farmers’ Market reflects the continuing long-term partnership between DMCI Homes and the Tuba community, promoting sustainable living, local agriculture, and inclusive growth.
